"Two roads diverged in a wood, and I -
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference."
Robert Frost , A Road Less Traveled
So often we think that following His rules and His will for us and being obedient to Him means that we live a boring life. I used to believe that. That was one of the things that held me a back from truly jumping into a relationship with him. I recently found that is not true. There are two paths we can follow in life: the one that He planned for us and the earthly and sinful one we plan for ourselves. So many times we struggle with things in our life and try to cope with those things with drinking, with sex, with anger- they may feel good at the time but they only make us feel guilty and alone afterwards. We don’t show someone we love them by just telling them, we show them by our actions. I have found by running to Him and becoming close to Him, I have no need for those things and I don’t want them. Does that mean that I never desire those things of the world? Absolutely not, I am a human and my flesh is led to sin every day. I’m surrounding myself with like minded sinners who can lift me up, not drag me down. Sinners that are walking this walk as well. The more I’m surrounded by Him the closer I am to him. I am following His will because it brings me joy and because I love him. Things start to change when obedience comes from a place of love not obligation. I feel convicted whenever I start to run away from him, whenever I’m not following his commandments and I start to do things that are not pleasing to him. The closer I get to him, the more I want to be convicted. I want to feel when I run astray. When you become obedient to Him the more He will bless others through you and in turn, bless you.
It doesn’t mean you get the life always you wanted. It means you get the life he always wants you to have, and you will find so much more joy and that life than you ever thought was possible. Your eyes are opened in a whole new way. It’s not something you can just want or ask for. It’s something that happens when your sole purpose to elevate him, his glory, never ours.
